It’s the mid-80’s… Dale Earnhardt Sr. was still piloting a yellow and blue Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS in NASCAR and Mötley Crüe had just released “Theatre of Pain”. It was a good time to be alive, women had big hair, smoking was cool, and you could blame all your daily troubles on “those damn communists”.
Even though the concept of custom 1911 pistols was nothing new to the American Handgunner, the late 70’s had given way to a dramatic uptick in custom 1911 shops as defensive and competitive shooting grew across the country. Many of these shops would become famous chapters in the history of the 1911, such as Swenson, Hoag, and arguably the most famous: Pachmayr.
The Pachmayr Combat Special has become one of the most recognizable custom handguns of yesteryear. Most famously known for its signature two-toned finish, the Combat Special gained most of its notoriety through the writings of Jeff Cooper and international competitive shooters to solidify its mark on custom 1911 history. To many 1911 enthusiasts, the Pachmayr Combat Special is a holy grail collection piece that not just defined custom guns of the 80s, but for many, many years thereafter.
It is for this reason that we at Alchemy Custom Weaponry would like to transport you back to the 80s with our first Limited Edition gun: the ACW Combat Limited. Inspired by the iconic looks of the Pachmayr Combat Specials, the ACW Combat limited is a tribute to the shop and gun that helped to pave the path for many custom 1911 manufacturers today.
The ACW Combat Limited features a polish-blued slide over a hard chrome frame, for that famous two-tone look. We opted to keep many things traditional on the Combat Limited, while still adding a bit of ACW “off-the-top-ropes” flare. The pistol features ball cuts, a checkered arched mainspring housing, ring hammer (I mean, duh), square trigger guard, and even a set of authentic Pachmayr grips. While we did choose to use the original Bomar-style rear sight, we opted to upgrade the “no-dot” or painted ramped front sight found on original Pachmayrs, to a more shooter-friendly red fiber optic front sight. I think it goes without saying, but the Combat Limited is chambered in the world-war-winning .45 ACP. All-new for the ACW Combat Limited, we’ve incorporated vertical cocking serrations and our new “resto-mod” markings to complete the classic look of this timeless handgun!
Each pistol will ship with an “Authenticity Card”, stating which number of 25 pistols your gun is, signed by Master Gunsmith Rob C. Schauland.

The Combat Limited is a Limited Edition Restomod and only 25 will me made in 2023. If you are able to add it to your cart, that means one is available to be paid for and shipped to your FFL. The Combat Limited is a tribute to the amazing guns made by builders past but with an eye towards how we would like them to be specc’d out. Combat Limiteds are not built to order and there are no options available for these pistols.
